LEBAK - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lebak Regency appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for waves in the south of Banten or the Indian Ocean to reach six meters in order to avoid sea accidents.

"We have issued an alert warning to residents, tour managers, fishermen, and shipping operators that bad weather is hitting southern Banten or the Indian Ocean," said the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Section of BPBD Lebak Regency Agus Riza Faisal in Lebak, Antara, Thursday, February 16.

Based on a report from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) that the possibility of high waves south of Banten or the Indian Ocean, Thursday, ranges from 4.0 - 6.0 meters. Including strong winds.

Communities who live and are active on the southern coast of Banten remain vigilant and alert to the potential impact of high waves and strong winds, including fishermen, tourists, and shipping operators, which can cause sea accidents.

Previously, a Cisiih fisherman named M Ramdani (23) had not been found until the third day after being swept away by the waves on Panggarangan Beach, Lebak. Then the fishermen from Binuangeun, Wanasalam District, Lebak Regency, experienced a sea accident due to the high waves causing their boats and fishing gear to be lost, while the fishermen survived.

"We ask residents, fishermen, tourists, and shipping operators to comply with officers to avoid sea accidents," said Agus.

An alert warning of high waves and strong winds in the southern sea of ​​Banten from the coast of Sumur Beach, Ujungkulon, Cikeusik, Binuangeun, Tanjung Panto, Like Rain, Bagedur, Cihara, Cibobos, Panggarangan, Bayah, Pulomanuk, Pulomanuk, and Sawarna.

Coastal communities, fishermen, and tourists are advised not to carry out activities around the beach, such as swimming and fishing, because they can be swept away by high waves.

So far, he said, the waves south of Banten facing the waters of the Indian Ocean are quite high and it is dangerous for residents and tourists to swim in coastal waters.

"We ask tourism managers to ban tourists from swimming around the beach to prevent sea accidents," he said.

Meanwhile, a number of Sawarna Beach attractions looked deserted and there was no community or tourist activity, due to high waves accompanied by strong winds.

"We prohibit tourists and residents from carrying out activities around the beach, because the waves are high and can cause sea accidents," said Mulyadi, a tourism manager in Cihara District, Lebak Regency.
