JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has denied that the Hydro Oxy Mouth Freshener Spray product can ward off the SARS CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19.

"The promotion stating that the Hydro Oxy Mouth Freshener Spray product can ward off the SARS CoV-2 virus is false and cannot be accounted for," said Head of BPOM Penny K Lukito in a press release received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 6.

He said BPOM had never given approval for cosmetic claims as an antidote to the SARS CoV-2 virus. Hydro Oxy products are registered with the BPOM but not to ward off COVID-19.

Hydro Oxy, according to him, is a cosmetic product registered by PT Ekosjaya Abadi Lestari to BPOM. The product has a distribution permit / notification number POM NA18201400055. The notification number is valid from 4 August 2020 to 4 August 2023.

"The POM has emphasized that business actors, including producers, always comply with applicable regulations, including regulations related to distribution permits, advertisements and labels," he said.

BPOM, said Penny, continues to supervise products in circulation. If there are products that contain excessive claims, BPOM will follow up according to the laws and regulations in the form of administrative sanctions.

He appealed to the public to become smart consumers who do not easily believe in excessive promotion, including cosmetic products that are claimed to ward off the SARS COV-2 virus.

"Always remember to check CLICK, that is to make sure the packaging is in good condition, read all the information on the label, make sure there is a distribution permit from the POM and make sure it does not pass the expiration period," he said.
