Lecturer At The State Campus Becomes A Joki Karya Scientific Armed With Fire

JAKARTA - Chairman of the State Civil Apparatus Commission (KASN) Agus Pramusinto said he would take firm action against lecturers with civil servants (PNS) who were proven to be involved in academic jockeys.

"There is no room for teaching staff, especially lecturers with civil servant status, in scientific works. If proven, it clearly violates the principles of the ASN code of ethics. We will act," Agus was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Monday, February 13.

Apart from being classified as an act of violating the principles of basic values, code of ethics, and code of conduct of ASN, he continued, by being involved as a jockey in the academic world, it also violates the code of ethics of teachers in various universities.

Based on information obtained by KASN, Agus said, so far there have been a number of senior lecturers on several campuses who are suspected of being involved in the practice of jockeying scientific works in order to hold the title of professor. In fact, this practice is also suspected of involving several structural officials on state campuses.

The academic jockey practices involving the prospective professors are suspected to have occurred at the Padang State University (UNP) of West Sumatra and Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Malang, East Java.

At UNP, it is suspected that there is a team of professors who are tasked with providing guidance on writing scientific articles. The team worked on various things, ranging from research, data analysis, to making manuscript; while the senior jockey lecturer was indicated as minimal in contributing.

Meanwhile in UB, it is suspected that a prospective professor used a team consisting of young students and lecturers on campus to create and publish articles in an international journal. This was done in order to fulfill the requirements of the lecturer to become a professor.

Regarding these allegations, Agus emphasized that KASN will immediately coordinate with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to further explore this matter.

"The match for obtaining credit from professors is very unfortunate if it really happens. KASN will immediately coordinate with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for further searches and examinations," said Agus Pramusinto.
