Ask For Transportation Benefits, Jokowi Calls Apart From Jakarta Other Big Cities Also

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has encouraged major cities outside Jakarta to start developing mass transportation, such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) or Light Rail Transit (LRT), as well as intercity and inter-island buses to prevent congestion on roads. "We hope that big cities outside Jakarta should start thinking towards other LRT, MRT and mass transportation modes," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 9. "If not, traffic jams, roads cannot be widened, eventually, everyone will be very dependent on what is called private vehicles," continued Jokowi. Jokowi said that the current congestion does not only occur in Jakarta, but also in other big cities outside Jakarta, such as Medan, Bandung, Surabaya, and Makassar. Therefore, he always encourages people to use mass transportation, be it intercity buses, inter-island buses, or other mass transportation. "We have started the MRT, soon the LRT will be finished soon," said President Jokowi. On that occasion, he also hopes that the construction of an Amplas Terminal in Medan and the Tanjung Berang Bangkir Terminal in Pematang Siantang can increase the public culture using bus transportation.
