Working With Commission II Of The DPR, DKPP Urges The KPU To Pay Attention To Political Stability Ahead Of The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - The Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) has asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) to pay attention to national political stability in the implementation of the 2024 General Election.

"Everyone must pay attention to national political stability so that there will be no shocks in the future," said DKPP Chairman Heddy Lugito at a Working Meeting (Raker) between Commission II of the DPR RI and DKPP, KPU, Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday 6 February, confiscated by Antara.

Heddy also conveyed DKPP's views on the Draft KPU Regulation on Electoral Areas and Allocation of Chaires for DPR members, Provincial DPRDs, and Regency/City DPRDs in the 2024 General Election.

According to him, after observing the regulation, DKPP assessed that the PKPU draft had accommodated matters mandated by Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections and Government Regulations in Lieu of Law (Perpu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.

Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Hasyim Asy'ari had presented the Draft KPU Regulation on Election Areas and the Allocation of Chaires for Members of the DPR, Provincial DPRDs, and Regency/City DPRDs in the 2024 General Election.

Hasyim explained that the legal basis for the PKPU draft includes seven principles of drafting electoral districts regulated by Article 185 of the Law on Elections.

Then, added Hasyim, there was also a Constitutional Court Decision Number 80/PUU-XX/2022 as a legal basis which emphasized that the electoral districts and the allocation of seats for DPR and provincial DPRD members in the 2024 election were determined by the KPU.

"Thirdly, the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2022, especially with regard to the electoral districts for members of the DPR RI in the Provinces of Papua, South Papua, Central Papua, Papua Mountains, West Papua, and Southwest Papua," he explained.

In addition, he added, there are also matters relating to the determination of the constituency for provincial DPRD members in Banten Province, Central Sulawesi, Papua, South Papua, Central Papua, Papua Mountains, West Papua, and Southwest Papua.

Next, the PKPU draft was accompanied by three attachments, namely Attachment I regarding electoral districts and the number of seats for each DPR member election area, Attachment II regarding electoral districts and the number of seats for each constituency DPRD member, and Attachment III regarding electoral districts and seats for each electoral district and city DPRD member.

The electoral district determined by the KPU is also equipped with a map of the electoral district for members of the DPR, provincial DPRD, and district and city DPRD, which will be determined through a KPU decision no later than one month after the PKPU is promulgated.
