JAKARTA - Heavy rains in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara caused the Kapsali Bridge to be cut off by floods. Access to transportation from Southwest Amfoang to Kupang City has been completely cut off.

"The access to transportation from Southwest Amfoang to Kupang was completely broken because the condition of the Kapsali bridge was heavily damaged so it could not be crossed by vehicles," said Kupang Regency Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB) Chairman Elfrid V Sstrange when contacted in Kupang, Saturday, February 4, as reported by Antara.

He said the breakup of the Kapsali bridge in Manubelon Village, Southwest Amfoang District occurred in the early hours of Saturday due to flood water.

According to him, the Kapsali bridge previously in the flood natural disaster that hit the area in December 2022 also broke completely and was heavily damaged so that vehicles could not be crossed, but after repairs were made by the Kupang Regency PUPR Service so that access to transportation was back to normal and vehicles and pedestrians could safely pass the bridge.

He said the flood that occurred on Saturday morning also destroyed the hashtag on the Kapsali bridge that PT Karunia worked on in January 2023.

According to him, the gelagar and the bridge wall that had been built were washed away by the flood water.

"The condition of the bridge was heavily damaged so that it could not be crossed by vehicles or pedestrians because the bridge was eroded by flood water, causing it to break," said Elfrid V S Strange.

He said the Kupang Regency PUPR Service could immediately make improvements so that access to transportation from Southwest Amfoang to Kupang remained smooth.

"If there are no improvement efforts, the Southwest Amfoang area will be isolated because transportation access to the area during the rainy season like this is only through the Kapsali bridge," he said.

He reminded residents in the Southwest Amfoang area to always be aware of potential flooding during heavy rains in the area.
