KPI Expresses Migration To Digital TV Small Space For Local Content

JAKARTA - The Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) revealed that analog TV migration to digital TV has led to narrowing of space for local content.

"Open access and a lot of content that can be watched by the public further narrows the space for local content. We should anticipate this challenge, considering that local content is one of the strengthening of local wisdom," said Central KPI Chairman Agung Suprio in a discussion forum at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Wednesday, February 1, confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the Job Creation Law mandates that Indonesia switch from analog to digital broadcasting systems, even since November 2, 2022 until now some regions have switched from analog to digital.

Agung explained that TV broadcasts that have migrated to digital are clearer and more diverse. In Jakarta, for example, from 18 TV broadcasts after moving to digital to 48 TV broadcasts, including with other cities.

"But in Jakarta, for example, most of its contents are not local content. Therefore, KPI seeks to overcome this problem through a policy of filling in local content at least 10 percent of the total content for all television stations," he said.

Meanwhile, Central KPI Commissioner Awar Hasan said, in implementing the strengthening of local content in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), KPI collaborated with various campuses in Yogyakarta because there needs to be research on what content the people of Yogyakarta are interested in while watching television.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the DIY KPID, Dewi Nurhasanah, said that in DIY the implementation of digital TV has been since December 3, 2022. KPID DIY is trying its best to implement regulations of at least 10 percent broadcasting local content.

"Di DIY local content must speak Javanese. This is part of efforts to maintain culture and local wisdom," he said.
