Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that the issue of postponing the 2024 General Election or extending the presidential term to three terms did not come from within the government. If there is a movement or guerrilla regarding the postponement of elections, it is related to problems outside the political realm. "The problem that we may have to deal with, the situation behind the scenes, is not such internal political issues. For example, natural disasters, geopoliticals, extraordinary events," said Mahfud in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 1. Mahfud gave directions at the Indonesian National Resilience Agency (Lemhannas) Policy Submission Leadership Meeting for Fiscal Year 2023 entitled "Transformation of Lemhannas RI 4.0" at the Lemhannas RI Pancagatra Building. According to Mahfud, someone's aspiration to postpone the election or extend the presidential term cannot be hindered, because it is an act that does not violate the law. "We cannot prevent if a political party leader, certain community groups, has a discourse that (the presidential term) must be extended. That's not against the law," he added. Apart from these various aspirations, he said that so far the government has prepared for the implementation of elections. In addition, other details regarding elections, ranging from procedural issues, institutions, to rules regarding democratic parties, have been prepared by the organizers. "Until now, our readiness is internal, procedural, personnel, institutional, rules; we have prepared all of them. We have prepared the stages. We will elect in 2024," said Mahfud.
