Siak Police, Riau, investigated the explosion of an oil pipeline belonging to a business entity owned by PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) in Area Bekasap 02, Kampung Dayun, Dayun District. In this incident, a worker named Anton (36) from Sungaiapit District, Siak, reportedly dead. "The Siak Police Criminal Investigation Unit team has investigated and checked the scene of the case there," said Siak Police Chief AKBP Ronald Sumaja when confirmed in Siak, Antara, Tuesday, January 31. The oil pipeline explosion that occurred on Thursday, January 26, 2023, also caused four workers to suffer minor injuries. From the scene, Ronald explained, his staff secured a number of items used by the victim at the time of the incident and put up a police line at the crime scene for investigation purposes. The explosion began when workers were about to take a valve gate from an oil pipe in an inactive well in Bekasap 02 Dayun. The pipe will be used or transferred to an active well pipe. Workers cut the pipe with welding equipment until sparks triggered an explosion because it was suspected that there was still gas left in the pipe tube. PT BSP Corporate Secretary Riki Hariansyah said the victims of the oil pipeline explosion were workers from company partners, namely PT Daya Tama Pola Nusantara. Based on information from the Public Relations of the SKK Migas Sumbagut, Riki added, the incident was not an explosion of a well, but an explosion from a pipe facility that was no longer used in the Bekas 02 Dayun Area during routine maintenance and asset utilization activities. The incident occurred when there was going to be a dam valve that was connected to the pipe, while in the pipe there was still hydrocarbon gas that was still trapped. "A total of four victims, not five. Three minor injuries and one person died after receiving treatment at Awal Bros Hospital. All injured victims have been treated properly," said Riki.
