Fadli Zon Orders Asian Group Meetings At The OKI Parliament Forum

JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKASP) Fadli Zon was elected to chair the Asian Group Consultation Session at the OKI State Parliament Forum or the Parliamentary Union of OIC (PUIC), Saturday, January 28.

A number of Asian countries that are members of this group discussed the representation of Asia in a number of strategic PUIC organs.

The Indonesian House of Representatives itself as a Delegation of the Indonesian Parliament has succeeded in occupying membership in various important PUIC organs, namely the Executive Commission, the Political and Foreign Commission, Human Rights and Family, and the Inter-Carity and Dialogue Commission.

In addition, the DPR and the Iranian Parliament were also elected as members of the Ad-Hoc of the Muslim Minority Commission tasked with tackling various minority Muslim challenges around the world including the issue of Islamophobia.

Furthermore, the DPR took the initiative to host a series of discussions entitled Human Rights in Muslim Countries, as part of the PUIC agenda.

After the Asian Group meeting, the DPR Delegation attended the opening of the 17th PUIC Conference chaired by the Algerian Parliament.

A number of issues surfaced at the moment of the opening, including the Palestinian issue as a common concern and issues that unite the Islamic world, burning the Koran and Islamophobia, and the suffering of minority Muslims, especially in Rakhine and Uyghur.

It is also important to note that the opening ceremony of the conference was attended by representatives of the African and Latin American Parliament where the two regional forum blocks are ready to cooperate with PUIC in responding to shared challenges.
