JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park (TN Milik), PT Smelting and Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) released a pair of Javan eagles named Jelita and Parama at the foot area of Mount Gede-Pangrango, Bogor Regency, West Java.

"These two individuals were released together into their natural habitats in the landscape of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park after the two of them underwent a habituation process at Taman Safari Indonesia," said Head of Balai TN Milik, Wasja, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 30.

According to him, the Javan eagle that was released this time was different from the previous one. The reason is, Jelita and Parama are fitted with a global processing system or GPS weighing 21 grams.

Wasja explained that Parama is a Javan eagle produced by breeding at the Javan Eagle Animal Reserve Center (PSSEJ) Loji Balai TN Milik which was named directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya.

Parama is the result of the parent Rama and Dygtha hatching at Balai TN Mikha on July 8, 2020. Parama is currently 2 years and 7 months old.

Meanwhile, Jelita is a female Javan eagle seeded at TSI and named by the Acting Director General of KSDAE, Bambang Hendroyono.

Jelita is the result of the mothers Rizka and Hanum who hatch their eggs on October 14, 2020 with an initial weight of 49.4 grams. Jelita is currently 2 years and 4 months old.

"The monitoring of behavior is carried out jointly, between TSI animal nurse and PSSEJ which emphasizes the five criteria and indicators that have been implemented to see the readiness of the eagle to be released into the wild," explained Wasja.

Meanwhile, TSI Director Jansen Manansang explained in the same place that Parama and Jelita are a pair of Javan eagles that are breeding in-situ and ex-situ from PSSEJ and Taman Safari Bogor.

According to him, the process of maintaining, maintenance and guarding the two animals protected by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 106/2018 was carried out intensively by the Bogor Safari Park and supported by PT. Smelting, KLHK, PSSEJ, TN Milik and TNGGP.

"It has been at least for two years that the maintenance and maintenance process is carried out with strict monitoring," said Jansen.

Director of Conservation of Keanekaraman Hayati at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indra Exploitia Semiawan said Jelita and Parama are two of the approximately 1,600 Javan eagles in Indonesia.

A total of 300 of them are endemic, then 500 of them have been protected through the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 105 of 2018 concerning protected plant and animal species.

"This program was launched by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, namely what we call the ex-situ link to in-situ, namely how the breeding in ex-situ returns to its natural habitat. So as to increase the population of these species in their natural habitat," explained Indra.
