In Line With BEM UI, Fadli Zon Usak Polri Enforces Justice In The UI Student Case That Died Of Collision

JAKARTA - Mohammad Hasya Athallah Saputra, a student at the University of Indonesia (UI), was allegedly hit by a car driven by a retired National Police officer, AKPB Eko Setio Budi Wahono. However, the student was named a suspect and this case led to the issuance of SP3.

BEM UI spoke by stating that the determination of the suspect to a UI student named Mohammad Hasya Athallah Saputra was irrational. They urged the police to immediately resolve this case as fairly as possible.

Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Fadli Zon, also asked law enforcement officials to process this case with appropriate legal considerations.

"Justice must be upheld," wrote Fadli Zon on his Twitter account, @fadlizon, quoted Monday, January 30.

Hasya is suspected of being hit by the former Cilincing Police Chief, AKBP Purn Eko Setio Budi Wahono in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on October 6, 2022. However, Hasya, who died, was named a suspect in the South Jakarta Police.

BEM UI said the determination of the suspect against the deceased was baseless. It is exacerbated by the issuance of SP3 to stop investigating the case.

"Based on Article 77 of the Criminal Code, indeed the authority to demand a criminal can be removed by jikka, who is accused of death. However, this does not mean that the status of a suspect can be determined for victims who have died, especially to be able to issue SP3," wrote BEM UI in his statement.

The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) promised to ask the National Police to investigate the collision that caused Hasya's death to be transparent and accountable.

"Kompolnas akan melihat langsung, terkait upaya damai atau RJ (restorative justice), apakah itu telah dilakukan sebelum adanya penetapan tersangka kemudian SP3 atau sesudah penetapan tersebut," kata Komsioner Kompolnas Yusuf Warsyim dalam keterangannya.
