JAKARTA - Turkish defense company STM is targeting unmanned submarine development, after successfully sending Pakistan's Navy-owned Agosta 90B submarine, in exports of the first and only submarine modernization in Turkey.

General manager of STM wayzg\"uler G\"ulery\"az told Anadolu Agency (AA), his party is trying to become a leading player in the international arena in terms of submarine development.

Stressing submarines is a very complex system in terms of engineering, which includes very high technology, Gloulery Pujuz said: "We want to take an intense role in modernization, design, and construction activities by using our competencies to the fullest," he added that their work is not limited to manned platforms., reported Daily Sabah January 25.

"Unmanned submarines are also included in the agenda, where successful results can be achieved," he continued.

"Our study and research and development activities (R&D) continue to be intensive on these issues," he said.

Commenting on the modernization of Pakistani Navy submarine G\"ulery\"uz said the project began in 2016 after they won the tender, competing with manufacturers for the modernization of French-made Class Agosta 90B submarines.

Delivering the first submarine in April 2021 and starting working on a second one in December 2022, Gloulery Eduz said the project was important for them as they won the tender against product manufacturers to be modernized.

"Not many companies have this competence other than manufacturers," he said, stressing that with the modernization of this submarine, "STM has proven its competence regarding submarines."

Targeting the second ship to be sent for a maximum of the next two years, Gloulery Hujuz explained that several updated systems, updated and fully modernized were carried out on submarines about 20 years old.

G\"ulery\"uz shows that submarines are modernized according to current needs by using the latest technology in all changing systems.

Systems and equipment such as electronic warfare (EW), war management systems, sonar systems and sensors are integrated into submarines, developed by Turkish companies such as Aselsan and Havelsan.
