Constrained By Capture Fish Bombings In The Natuna Sea, PSDKP: Evidence Disappeared When Our Ship Ends

KEPRI - The perpetrators of the fish bombing in the Midai Island area, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri), came from West Kalimantan (Kalbar). This was revealed by the Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervisory Unit (Satwas SDKP).

"We already know that these perpetrators are from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, but it is difficult for us to catch them if they are not really caught red-handed, evidence such as fish, bombs and others is easily eliminated, even before our ship approaches the evidence, it is gone," said the Coordinator. He also said that before there were complaints from the public regarding the rampant fish bombing activities to the local regent on Thursday, January 26, the Natuna Elementary School Animal since February 2022 had carried out surveillance and knowledge of such activities.

"Since the beginning of last year we have known and have carried out patrols, but because our ships are easily recognized, it is difficult to make arrests, their ships have also been modified faster than us," he said.

He also said that his party had received information regarding the perpetrators of the fish bombing, not by local fishermen, after gathering information from various parties and taking part in direct patrols in the area.

"This has become a special concern, and PSDKP continues to carry out surveillance patrols in Midai, and will take action against violations or fisheries crimes based on applicable rules and laws," he said.

Therefore, according to him, prevention efforts are better to do, such as increasing supervision of fish collectors caught using bombs and providers of bomb raw materials themselves.

"We know that the bomb material comes from fertilizer, the item comes from Malaysia, goes to Pontianak and then to the Appointment and even the perpetrators we also know, but if it is on land then it is not our authority anymore, therefore cross-sectoral cooperation is needed, in this case the police," he said.

He also said that the difficulties in prevention efforts, starting from the raw material for the fish bomb itself, are materials that are not prohibited because of materials for agriculture.

"Actually, it is impossible for there to be "smoke" if there is no "fire", it's just a matter of how we are serious about handling this together, if there are no collectors and suppliers of materials, there will be no perpetrators, that's all," he said.

Therefore, he said his party would continue to take legal action at sea as a precautionary measure and would even take firm action as a lesson for the perpetrators.

"We will take legal action as a deterrent effect, because everyone can be threatened with eight years in prison if they are proven to have committed acts of bombing fish and using potassium, not playing games," he said.
