KOBA - Central Bangka Regency Government (Pemkab), Bangka Belitung Islands Province (Babel), empowers as many as 140 integrated service posts (posyandu), to reduce the number of stunting cases in early childhood (stunting).

"We have 140 posyandu spread across the village, this continues to be empowered and optimized," said Central Bangka Regent Algafry Rahman as quoted by ANTARA Thursday, January 26.

He asked the village government to move its people to run a community-based health program by activating all existing posyandu in each village.

"The village government is the spearhead in handling stunting cases, which until now are still at 3 percent," said the regent.

Chairman of the Central Bangka TP-PKK, Eva Algafry Rahman said that pokjanal posyandu districts have a very important role to play in providing health counseling to the public, especially regarding balanced nutritional intake for pregnant women and early childhood.

"We check all posyandu and invite village officials to jointly mobilize activities at the posyandu," he said.

According to him, with the number of posyandu as many as 140 units, the number of stunting cases should be quickly suppressed if various elements both have a strong commitment.

"To increase public awareness, encouragement from us and also the government is needed, especially to intensify socialization related to the culture of healthy living," he said.

According to him, posyandu is very able to carry out early detection of stunting cases and when children routinely go to posyandu every month, the growth and development of toddlers will be seen.

"The growth and development of toddlers must be recorded and organized, so for example, the number of malnutrition is not detected, it will be easier for us to intervene, meaning that stunting cases do not need to occur," he said.
