Nazaha Saudi Arabia Arrests 142 Government Officials Related To Corruption Allegations To Money Laundering

JAKARTA - Saudi Arabia's Supervision and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) announced on Monday that 142 government officials were arrested for their alleged involvement in various crimes.

Authorities have made 2,364 inspection visits in the past month.

After the investigation, demands filed against 307 people and 142 arrests were made, as reported by The National News on January 24.

The arrests were made for a number of criminal and administrative cases such as corruption, bribery, abuse of influence, to money laundering and counterfeiting.

Nazaha said the arrested officials worked in a number of Saudi Arabia's ministries.

Among them are the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense, National Guard, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of City and Rural Affairs and Housing.

They also include officials and employees of the ministry of education, health, and the environment, water and agriculture, in addition to the Zakat Authority, Tax and Customs and Excise.

Authorities said about 142 detainees had been released on bail.

Nazaha was founded in 2011. The royal anti-corruption supervisory body provides a monthly briefing on the case being investigated.

Hundreds of top government officials and employees, including security officers, have been detained on bribery charges and have violated the law so far.

Nazaha also urged people to work together and report any violations or allegations of financial or administrative corruption.
