MEDAN - The North Sumatra Regional Police's Rapid Reaction Patrol Team (PRC) arrested a man who attempted to break into an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) machine.

The perpetrator SG (41) was caught by officers at the BNI Akbid Senior Stikes ATM on Jamin Ginting Street Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday (22/1).

"The ATM burglary was thwarted after reports were received from a member of the North Sumatra Police Directorate of Samapta, Bripda Andre," said Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi, as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 24.

Hadi said that at that time Bripda Andre was about to withdraw money from the ATM machine but was prevented by a man who claimed to be a vendor officer on the grounds that the machine was under repair.

Bripda Andre felt suspicious because the perpetrator used an iron to pry open the ATM machine and saw the CCTV was damaged/off.

"Feeling suspicious of the perpetrator's movements, Bripda Andre immediately contacted the PRC Team of the North Sumatra Police Directorate of Samapta who was on duty and then arrested the perpetrator," he said.

From the hands of the perpetrators, evidence was confiscated in the form of sharpened iron, cutting pliers, black tape, and two cellphones.

"Currently the perpetrators have been handed over to the Medan Tuntungan Police, Medan Police for legal proceedings by investigators," said Hadi.
