Defending Prisoners Obtains Chinese New Year 2023 Remission In West Java

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) West Java said that there were no inmates (convicts) who received remission for the 2023 Chinese New Year.

Head of the Marketing Division of the West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Kusnali, said that granting remissions on holidays is related to religions that are embraced by prisoners. However, he said, no Confucian religion was embraced by prisoners in West Java.

"Therefore, this year no one will get zero Chinese New Year remission," said Kusnali in Bandung, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 22.

According to him, from the report of the Directorate General of Corrections there were several inmates in the area who received Chinese New Year remission, but did not include West Java.

Even so, he said, the West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Correctional Division would carry out routine monitoring and mapping of each prison and detention center in this province so that routine activities could be used as a reference for future steps related to correctional supervision.

"On Thursday there was a technical guidance activity to strengthen officers, including inmates," said Kusnali.

Previously, the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of the Republic of Indonesia said as many as 26 of the 42 Confucian convicts throughout Indonesia received special remissions for Chinese New Year 2574 Kongzili.

The Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Rika Aprianti, said that granting remissions was a form of state appreciation to prisoners who had tried and showed better behavior change.

"One of them received special remission II (direct free) after receiving a one-month remission," he said, in Jakarta, Sunday.
