KPAI Notes That The Most Cases Of Sexual Harassment Of Children Occur In DKI, The Second Is East Java

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Ai Maryati Solihah said cases of child sexual crimes dominated complaints that entered this institution during 2022.

"The highest complaint is the child-only protection cluster (PKA) with 2,133 cases. The highest number of cases is the type of child being a victim of sexual crimes with 834 cases," said Ai Maryati Solihah, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 20.

According to him, the data indicates that Indonesian children are vulnerable to becoming victims of sexual crimes.

He said sexual violence could occur in the domestic realm, in various religious and general-based educational institutions.

KPAI noted that during 2022, the most reports of complaints about child victims of sexual violence came from DKI Jakarta with 56 cases and East Java with 39 cases.

Meanwhile, complaints from family environment clusters and alternative care are dominated by cases of child rights violations.

"The data on complaints from family environment clusters and alternative care are 1,960 complaints. The highest number of complaints about cases of child rights violations occurred in children who were victims of problematic parenting/conflicts of parents/family as many as 479 cases," said Ai.

He said this data illustrates that families should be the safest and most comfortable places for children, but in reality, they often become places for violating children's rights.
