MAMUJU - Mamuju Police, West Sulawesi Police, has uncovered a lottery gambling case by arresting two perpetrators. One of them is a lottery book dealer and the other is a collector. "On the first day of Operation Pekat Marano 2023, we succeeded in uncovering gambling cases by arresting dealers and lottery gambling collectors," said Mamuju Police Chief Kombes Iskandar, as reported by Antara, Friday, January 20. The two lottery gamblers who were arrested, according to the Chief of Police, namely JP (44) and AS (33). "Both of them were arrested by the Gakkum Task Force for the Mamuju Police Criminal Investigation Unit in Batu Ampa Village, Papalang District. The perpetrators of JP are lottery bookies, while AS is the collector of lottery number pairs," said Iskandar. In addition to arresting the two perpetrators, the Mamuju Police Satreskrim Gakkum Task Force also managed to confiscate a number of evidences, including two mobile phones used to install lottery numbers to an online site and Rp853.000 in cash. Other pieces of evidence that were confiscated were a note on the installation of a lottery number, a lottery number recapitulation book, a two-KTP ATM card and two wallets. The two perpetrators, said Iskandar, have been named as suspects by being charged with Article 303 of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of 10 years. "The perpetrator is currently being held at the Mamuju Police Criminal Investigation Unit Resmob Post for legal proceedings and to be held accountable for his actions," said Iskandar. The police chief appealed to the public to immediately report if they knew of a crime in the vicinity, including gambling. "We will immediately respond if there are public reports related to criminal acts including gambling. As this case was revealed based on public reports, then we followed up and succeeded in uncovering and arresting the perpetrators," said Iskandar.
