Police Will Sanction For Lighting Fireworks Exploding On New Year's Eve In Solo

SOLO - The Head of Surakarta Police, Ade Safri Simanjuntak, emphasized that his party will impose legal sanctions on people who light fireworks on New Year's Eve.

"What is not allowed is fireworks that have an explosive effect, including firecrackers, all are not allowed. No matter how small they sound, we will chase them, we will detect them," he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 29.

The police have provided socialization as well as warning the public not to celebrate on New Year's Eve considering that currently the COVID-19 case cannot be controlled, including in Solo City.

"If there are still those who are reckless we will take legal action. The first is to obey the 4 M health protocol, namely using masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds. Avoiding crowds is still a problem in our society," said Kombes Ade Safri.

In addition, it was also explained that the Mayor of Surakarta Circular (SE) regarding efforts to control the COVID-19 case had stricter rules, namely the crowd should not be more than five people.

"Because the crowd is very vulnerable to the massive spread of COVID-19. Therefore, in the justisi operation we carried out not only targeting masks but also targeting the crowd. On New Year's Eve we also prepare a Crowd Investigation Team," he said.

So far, apart from the Crowd Investigation Team, his party has formed a Crowd Decomposition Team. He said that if the appeal from the team met with resistance from the community, the police officers would take legal action against both the perpetrators of the crowd and the organizers who caused the crowd.

"We will investigate with harsher laws, be it the Criminal Code, the Law on Infectious Diseases and health quarantine. We do this to protect public health because public health is the highest law," continued Kombes Ade Safri.

Previously, the Mayor of Surakarta, FX Hadi Rudyatmo, had long ago banned New Year's Eve celebrations including the sale of trumpets.

"Celebration of 'ora entuk opo meneh trumpet' (celebrations are not allowed, let alone trumpets)," he said.

In addition, he emphasized that there should be no crowds on New Year's Eve. In fact, he said, there should not be any celebration on that New Year's Eve.
