KUPANG - The Kupang Regency Government, East Nusa Tenggara Province, has set a alert status in anticipation of the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus disease or African swine fever after the discovery of one case of ASF in the area.
"In 2019 Kupang Regency was also hit by the ASF outbreak which caused tens of thousands of pigs to die, thus anticipating the spread of ASF disease, the status of alert one has been determined in Kupang Regency," said Head of the Kupang Regency Livestock Service through the Head of Animal Health, Kesmavet, Processing and Marketing, Dr. Yosep A Paulus in Kupang, Antara, Thursday, January 19.
He said this was related to the finding of an ASF virus disease or African Babi fever in one of the pig samples in Kupang Regency. According to the results of laboratory examinations from UPTD Vetiriner Kupang, it was found that there was one pig from Naibonat Village, East Kupang District which tested positive for the ASF virus.
He explained that the Kupang Regency Animal Husbandry Service began to aggressively anticipate the transmission of ASF disease to pigs by making appeals and socialization to pig breeders about how to keep Babi cages clean so that they are not easily exposed to the ASF virus.
"We hope that pig breeders in Kupang Regency will pay attention to the cleanliness of the Babi cage and provide nutritious food for pig feed," said drh Yosep A Paulus.
He said there was no drug that could treat the ASF virus or African swine fever, so what citizens had to do was pay attention to the cleanliness of the cage to anticipate that the transmission of the ASF virus would not spread.
"One of the efforts that must be done is to maintain the cleanliness of the cage and avoid people going in and out of the cage so that it is not easy to transmit disease to pigs who are in good health," said Drh Yosep A Paulus.
He hopes that if found sick pigs, they will immediately be reported to officers at the Puskeswan for identification and handling to minimize the transmission of the ASF virus to pigs in the area.
In addition, he said, the Kupang Regency Government also tightened supervision at the entrances to the area to prevent the entry of pigs exposed to the ASF virus.
