The panel of judges in the trial of the bribery case of the former rector of the University of Lampung (Unila), sentenced the defendant Andi Desfiandi to imprisonment for one year and four months or 16 months. The defendant Andi Desfiandi was legally and convincingly proven guilty of participating in a criminal act of corruption as in the alternative charges of the two public prosecutors. "Imposing a sentence of one year and four months in prison, to the defendant," said Chief Justice Veronika while reading the verdict at the Bandarlampung Class I Tanjungkarang District Court, Antara, Wednesday, January 18. Andi Desfiandi was charged with giving bribes in the alleged bribery case against the Unila Chancellor (non-active) Prof. Dr. Karomani for accepting new students (PMB) at the 2022 Unila. Apart from being sentenced to prison terms, the defendant Andi Desfiandi was also fined Rp150 million, a subsidiary of three months in prison. This is burdensome for the verdict of the defendant Andi Desfiandi, because his actions did not support the government's program in eradicating corruption. The defendant's actions have injured prospective students from the University of Lampung who have seriously gone through the selection stage honestly. "Meanwhile, the thing that relieves the defendant, namely the person concerned has never been convicted. The defendant also regretted his actions and promised not to repeat his actions, then, be polite during the trial and play a role in social activities in society," he said. Based on the verdict handed down by the chairman of the panel of judges, the defendant and his legal adviser and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) expressed their thoughts. Previously, the KPK prosecutor demanded that the defendant Andi Desfiandi be sentenced to two years in prison in the alleged bribery case against the Unila Chancellor (non-active) Prof. Dr. Karomani for accepting new students at the University of Lampung (Unila) in 2022. The KPK prosecutor also imposed a fine on the defendant Andi Desfiandi in the amount of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to five months in prison. In this case, the KPK has named four suspects consisting of three as recipients of bribes, namely Prof. Dr. Karomani (the inactive Unila Chancellor), Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Heryandi, and Senate Chairperson Unila Muhammad Basri.
