Let's Not Continue Floods, Rivers In Jakarta Must Immediately Normalize

Member of Commission D DPRD DKI Jakarta August Hamonangan hopes that the Ministry of PUPR will immediately implement a river normalization project so that flooding in Jakarta will not be prolonged.

August Hamonangan also asked the DKI Provincial Government to immediately complete the ongoing land acquisition process.

"It is necessary to make a breakthrough by the Ministry of PUPR so that the land acquisition along the riverbanks that have been processed by the Natural Resources Service should immediately be executed by depriving (normalization), moving quickly and being parallel by giving compensation or transferring affected residents," said August Hamonangan in Jakarta, Monday 16 January.

Regarding the Ciliwung River normalization program which has begun with the sodetan development process, August stated that appreciation to the Ministry of PUPR, especially the Ciliwung-CisaANNE River Basin Center (WSCC) and the Water Resources Service (SDA).

In addition, the sub-district and village heads around the banks of the Ciliwung River (Srengseng Sawah, Lenteng Agung, East Pejaten, Rawajati, Pengadegan, Kebon Baru, Bukit Duri, Manggarai) for the processes and achievements made.

"The performance of PUPR (BWSCC), SDA, sub-district and village heads around the banks of the Ciliwung River should be appreciated because they encourage people to maintain rivers and river functions as public spaces and to preserve rivers, especially in creating clean and healthy river conditions," said August Hamonangan quoted from Antara.

If there are still residents on the banks of the river who do not want to move, the provincial government is asked to invite community leaders or local religious leaders to communicate persuasively.

"Even though the socialization has been conveyed optimally, there are still residents who are stubborn, the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government can involve religious/community leaders to provide enlightenment," he said.

The Ciliwung River drain project is one of the largest and longest irrigation projects in the world in an underground water construction system. The completion of this project is targeted for completion in April 2023.

Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono while reviewing the Ciliwung River drain project in two locations, namely Jalan Otista Raya and Jalan Kebon Nanas, East Jakarta, ensure that the Sodetan construction project runs well and is expected to be completed on time.

"There are two outlets here, the tunnels are almost finished below and of course they will function around February-March, no later than April 2023," said Heru, Thursday (1/12).
