JAKARTA - A young man with the initials AG (20) finally languished in the detention cell of the Palmerah Police.

AG was arrested for snatching a cell phone belonging to a student with the initials EN (18) near a minimarket in the Kemanggisan area, Palmerah, West Jakarta.

The incident began when the victim and his friend came home shopping from a minimarket around the scene.

The perpetrator suddenly came to accompany him using a motorcycle and immediately snatched the cellphone in his hand.

"The cellphone that was stolen was a blue VIVO Y20 brand," said Palmerah Police Chief Kompol Dodi Abdulrohim when confirmed, Saturday, January 14.

After his cell phone was snatched, the victim screamed for help from local residents. It didn't take long for the victim to be secured by residents, then handed over to the Palmerah Police for further processing.

"The victim and a number of residents then reported it to the Palmerah Police," he said.

From the perpetrator's statement to the police, he admitted to committing the theft because he no longer had money.

"The perpetrator had just been laid off from his workplace when his wife was nine months pregnant," he said.
