JAKARTA - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) asks each bride and groom to have a certificate from the Electronics Ready for Marriage and Pregnant Application (Elsmil) before getting married.

"The BKKBN has collaborated with the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) to issue a circular so that three months before marriage the brides and grooms have an Elsimil Certificate which is then reported to the local Office of Religious Affairs (KUA)," said Bina Pemilihan Resilience Director of BKKBN Victor Palimbong in his statement, Friday, January 13, was confiscated by Antara.

Victor asked each bride and groom to work together to register at the Ministry of Religion first so they could get a certificate.

Because self-registration is one of the government's strategies to accelerate the reduction in stunting prevalence rates from upstream, through screening, reproductive health education, nutrition improvement and assistance for brides through Elsimil.

Moreover, the high number of anemia in adolescents and prospective brides is considered to have contributed greatly to increasing stunting prevalence rates.

If we can correct anemia in the bride and groom, it means that we can get rid of the risk of a low-born baby (BBLR) so that we can avoid the risk of stunting. In the implementation of this strategy in the form of screening and education and mentoring activities, it will produce the output in the form of a certificate ready to get married," he said.

In the data compiled by the BKKBN until December 30, 2022, there have been 724,353 brides and grooms who registered on the Elsimil application and 394,374 of them have filled the health commissioner.

Self-registration can be done three months before marriage. Prospective brides are expected to have downloaded and filled out the Elsimil application after conducting a medical examination, including age, weight, examination of hemoglobin levels (Hb) and size of the upper arm circumference.

"If the results of the examination show the Hb number is below 12 gr/dl and the arm circumference of the prospective bride is less than 23.5 centimeters, the bride and groom will be at risk of giving birth to stunting babies," said Victor.

Later, prospective brides and grooms who are at risk will receive assistance from the Family Assistance Team (TPK) consisting of Midwives, KB cadres and also PKK cadres. The TPK will also be tasked with providing education, facilitating brides to health facilities, so that their health condition is ideal for marriage, pregnancy and childbirth.

Victor continued that the presence of Elsimil was in line with the spirit of bureaucratic reform, namely digitizing the service system.

The Elsimil application itself is one of the innovations of the BKKBN to prevent stunting from upstream. Each bride and groom is required to fill out their health commissioners.
