Will Share Tasks With The Minister, Jokowi Will Immediately Hold A Victim Recovery Meeting Of 12 Cases Of Heavy Human Rights

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) immediately held a special meeting to discuss and ensure that the recovery of victims of gross human rights violations in the past was effective.

"How to ensure and ensure that the recovery by the state runs effectively? So there are two. (First) in the near future, the President or cabinet will hold a special meeting to talk about this," Mahfud said while giving a press statement, quoted from the YouTube channel of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Thursday, January 12.

During the meeting, he continued, the President would distribute tasks to a number of ministers and institutions as well as provide targets or deadlines for them to complete their respective tasks.

"Later, the President will be divided into tasks. Minister A (for example) made recommendations for such numbers or types of recovery, Minister B number number number, Minister C number number number, LPSK (Witness and Victim Protection Agency) number number, and so on. Divided and given time targets," said Mahfud.

If the tasks that have been determined are not carried out at a predetermined time, Mahfud said that the government will form a task force to oversee the effectiveness of the recovery of victims of gross human rights violations.

The task force will report to the President any implementation of recovery carried out, developments, and problems they face.

"The task force will be agreed for the time being to have an office at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Even though I myself (assess) this should be at the Menkumham Office, there is a lot of work there, that's okay. We help because this is a form of coordination. We will propose alternatives to the President, who is the person and where is to guard this," he said, confiscated by Antara.

Earlier on Wednesday January 11, President Joko Widodo stated that the Indonesian government acknowledged the occurrence of 12 gross human rights violations in the past.

He conveyed this after receiving a report from the Team for Non-Juniorial Settlement of Human Rights Violations (PPHAM) of the past represented by Mahfud MD.

On this occasion, the President claimed to have read carefully the report from the PPHAM Team, which was previously formed based on Presidential Decree Number 17 of 2022.

The President also stated that he deeply regretted the occurrence of gross human rights violations in 12 past events.

The 12 incidents were the 1965-1966 Incident, the 1982-1985 admittance Shooting Incident, the Talangsari Incident in Lampung 1989, the Rumoh Geudong Incident and the Sattis Post in Aceh 1989, the 1997-1998 Forced Lossing Incident, and the May 1998 Riot Event.

Then Trisakti and Semanggi I-II 1998-1999 Incidents, 1998-1999 Santet Hamlet Murder Incident, 1999 Aceh KKA Intersection Incident, 2001-2002 Papua Wasior Incident, 2003 Wamena Papua Incident, and 2003 Keupok Jambo Incident.
