JAKARTA - A teacher found around 36 kilograms of marijuana in the library of the 18 Sunur Tengah State Elementary School (SDN), Nan Sabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra.

"The school teacher found the cannabis, then the school administration reported the discovery to the Nagari guardian and then the Nagari guardian informed Bhabinkamtibmas", said the Head of Police Nan Sabaris AKP Andra Nova quoted by ANTARA on Wednesday, January 11.

That much cannabis is packaged in 36 packages, each of which is estimated to weigh around one kilogram.

From the discovery of the marijuana, the police then arrested a school guard with the initials A (44) who claimed to be the owner of the illicit goods.

Andra said that from the school guard's confession, tens of kilograms of marijuana came from North Sumatra which was entrusted to him and will be brought by someone else.

"So, it's only transit, later someone will pick it up", he added.

Based on A's confession, the tens of kilograms of cannabis arrived on Tuesday, January 10 night and it was the first time he had stored it at school.

According to Andra, the owner of the marijuana is a former convict with a theft case and has been serving a sentence at the Pariaman Penitentiary.

Andra could not confirm whether the school guard with the initial A knew the cannabis supplier while serving his sentence in prison. Currently, the owner and evidence of cannabis have been submitted to the Padang Pariaman Police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Narcotics Research Unit at the Pariaman Police, Iptu Syafwal, said that his party would investigate the case of finding tens of kilograms of marijuana in the school library.

"We will explore whether there are other networks, especially in Nan Sabaris District", he said.

Even though the perpetrators admitted that they had just received the cannabis deposit for the first time, Syafwal said that his party would conduct further investigations.
