JAKARTA - midnight last night, the North Coast area of Southwest Maluku, Maluku was rocked by a tectonic earthquake. Had reported to have a magnitude of 7.9, the results of the BMKG analysis showed that this earthquake had updated parameters with a magnitude of M7.5.

BMKG had issued a potential tsunami wave due to this Maluku earthquake.

3. The epicenter of the earthquake is located at coordinates 7.37 degrees South Latitude; 130.23 degrees east longitude or precisely located at sea at a distance of 136 km to the West North of West Southeast Maluku.

4. The depth center is 130 km.

BMKG analysis of the Maluku Earthquake: By taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a medium earthquake due to subduction activity in the Banda Sea. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism

This earthquake impacted and was felt in the Saumlaki area with an intensity scale of V MMI (The tremors were felt by almost all residents, many people woke up), the Dobo area, Tiakur IV MMI (In the afternoon felt by many people in the house, outside by several people, broken pottery, windows/gates pulsating and walls sound), Sorong area, Kaimana, Alor, Waingapu, Waijelu, Lembata with intensity scale III-IV MMI (If during the day felt by many people in the house), the Kairatu area, Merauke, Nabire, Tanah Merah, Wamena, Bakunase, Kolhua, Sabu, Rote, Ende, South Amarasi, Kupang City with intensity scale II-III MMI (the vibration was felt to be real in the house), the Ambon and Piru II MMI areas (The movement was felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed).
