Jusuf Kalla's Plan To Make Jakarta The Location For The Taliban-Afghanistan Mediation

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla (JK) said he was ready to mediate negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban group. JK is sure that the negotiations are an important step in realizing peace in Afghanistan.

JK, in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, December 25, stated that he plans to invite the conflicted parties to have a dialogue in Jakarta. "Of course for peace we are always willing to help."

Previously, Ghani hosted the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia at Gulkhana Palace, Afghanistan Presidential Palace Complex in Kabul, Thursday evening, December 24. During the meeting Ghani explicitly asked JK to lead the peace negotiations.

Furthermore, today, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla (JK) performed Friday prayers together at the ARG Palace Mosque, Afghanistan Presidential Palace Complex, Kabul.

The presence of JK in Afghanistan brought along Hamid Awaluddin who was the Head of the Helsinki Negotiator for Aceh Peace.

During his stay in Kabul, JK also discussed and exchanged ideas about peace with the Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs of Afghanistan, Muhammad Qosim Halimi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Afghan Negotiator Team.
