KPK: There Are 244 Land Mafia Cases Over The Last 4 Years

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that there have been hundreds of cases related to the land mafia in the last four years that must be considered by the Ministry of ATR/BPN. The number of cases was obtained from a study by the KPK Monitoring Directorate.

"In this period, 244 land mafia cases were found," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron in a written statement, Thursday, January 5.

Not only that, there were 31,228 land cases with details of 37 percent of disputes, 2.7 percent of conflicts, and 60 percent of cases. "The classic issue of agrarian disputes found is the overlap of rights to use (HGU)," he said.

Ghufron revealed that this problem usually occurs because the HGU certificate has not been mapped. In fact, the total reached 1,799 certificates with an area of 8.3 hectares.

Then, the KPK also revealed that above one plot of land, several certificates could be issued which later to the National Land Agency (BPN).

However, the institution seemed to have done nothing so the conflict continued in court. "The country should be professionally telling what is right and wrong," he said.

"(No, red) As if they don't want to take risks and the people are fighting alone. We hope that there will be improvements from BPN's friends," continued Ghufron.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the KPK Pahala Nainggolan said there were cases of land corruption that were being handled by his institution. Among them, HGU bribes at the National Land Agency (BPN) Riau and West Kalimantan.

This condition is due to weak supervision. This is because the Minister of ATR/BPN Regulation Number 18 of 2021 does not regulate strict sanctions related to violations of HGU obligations and lack of budget.

"The budget for HGU supervision and monitoring mechanisms based on risk and technology are not built. As a result, there is a non-compliance with the implementation of the obligations of HGU holders and the potential for high overlaps," concluded Pahala.
