Participating In The Protests, Two Iranian Youths Sentenced Tosk And Sentenated

JAKARTA - Two Iranian teenagers were sentenced to death by hanging, for participating in anti-Government protests that have rocked the country since September, a rights group said late Monday.

Mehdi Mohammadifard (18) was sentenced to death after being found guilty of burning a traffic police post in Nowshahr City, central Mazandaran Province, said Iran's non-governmental rights human rights (IHR) based in Oslo, Norway.

Another teenager who was also sentenced to death was Mohammad Boroghani (19), the group said.

He was arrested in December and detained by the Supreme Court on charges of "hostile to God", according to court news website Mizan Online.

Borroghani faces charges of wounding members of security personnel with a knife with the intention of killing him, "strengthening terror among residents" and setting fire to the governor's office in Pakdasht, a city 43 kilometers southeast of Tehran.

Previously, authorities had executed two men, both 23 years old, for protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish girl who died in a morality police custody in September.

He has been detained in Tehran for wearing his headscarf "not right".

Human rights activists fear dozens of protesters will face executions, as authorities use the death penalty as an intimidation tactic in an effort to quell protests.

IHR Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said Mohammadifard appeared to be the youngest person to be sentenced to death for the protests.

"(Iran)" which is unable to control the protests after 109 days, requires intimidation and execution to continue its survival," Amiry-Moghaddam said, launching The National News from AFP Jan. 3.

"At least 100 protesters are at risk of being executed, after being sentenced to death or charged with serious crimes," IHR said last week.

Separately, Iranian officials said about 300 people, including members of the security forces, were killed in the protests.

Meanwhile, last month IHR said about 458 people died during the protests, including about 63 children.

Also in December, the Human Rights Activist News Agency, founded by Iranian human rights activists, reported that more than 18,200 people had been arrested in connection with protests in the country.

Tehran's authorities have blamed Iran's foreign enemy and their agent for being the mastermind of the riots.
