The Detention Period Of The Former Minister Of Social Juliari Batubara Is Extended

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention of former Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara (JPB) in the case of providing social assistance for the Greater Jakarta area in 2020 and four other suspects.

"Today, the detention center has been extended for 40 days starting December 26, 2020 to February 3, 2021 for two suspects JPB and AW (Adi Wahyono / Commitment Making Officer at the Ministry of Social Affairs)," said Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri in his statement in Jakarta. Meanwhile, two other people are Commitment Making Officials at the Ministry of Social Affairs Matheus Joko Santoso (MJS) as well as from the private sector Ardian IM (AIM) and Harry Sidabuke (HS).

"The detention extension is carried out because the investigating team still needs time to complete the investigation process and case filing," said Ali.

The KPK suspects that the Minister of Social Affairs received a bribe worth Rp. 17 billion from the "fee" for the provision of basic food social assistance for people affected by COVID-19 in Jabodetabek.

In the implementation of the first period of the basic food assistance package, it is suspected that a fee of Rp 12 billion was received, which Matheus Joko Santoso gave in cash to Juliari through Adi Wahyono with a value of around Rp. 8.2 billion.

The money was then managed by Eko and Shelvy N as Juliari's trusted people to be used to pay for Juliari's personal needs.

For the second period of the implementation of the basic food social assistance packages, "fee" money was collected from October 2020 to December 2020 amounting to around Rp.8.8 billion which is also suspected to be used for Juliari's needs.

Matheus Joko Santoso and Adi Wahyono agreed to the "fee" for each package of basic food packages of Rp. 300 thousand per package of social assistance.
