JABAR - The Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) estimates that Indonesian workers (TKI) from Karawang Regency who go abroad will increase again in 2023.

Apart from the fact that the COVID-19 control rules have been lifted, the government also plans to allow the departure of Indonesian workers to Saudi Arabia again after the termination of the placement of non-formal workers in the country in 2011.

According to the Head of Manpower Admission Division of the Karawang Manpower and Transmigration Office, Endang Syafrudin, Saudi Arabia is one of the favorite destinations for workers from Karawang.

"This year there is also a possibility that there will be an increase in the number of TKI departures from Karawang, because the information on the departure to Saudi Arabia will be reopened," he said in Karawang, West Java (West Java), Monday, January 2, as reported by Antara.

Endang said the number of Karawang residents who went abroad to earn sustenance had increased significantly throughout 2022.

"When compared to the previous year, the number of Karawang residents departing to become Indonesian migrant workers (Indonesian workers) has greatly increased in 2022," he said.

According to him, throughout 2022, there were 2,376 residents of Karawang Regency who went abroad to work, far more than the number of workers who went abroad in 2021, which was only 364 people.

The destination countries for workers from Karawang during 2022 include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Romania, Brunei Darussalam, Poland, and countries in the Middle East.

But throughout 2022, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore have become the favorite destinations for workers from Karawang to work.

During 2022, according to him, 1,404 people left for Taiwan, 340 people went to Malaysia, and 336 people headed to Singapore for work.

He added that during 2021 most workers from Karawang went to Singapore and Hong Kong to work.

The number of Karawang workers who left for Singapore and Hong Kong to work was recorded at 187 people and 139 people each during 2021.

Endang said that the number of workers leaving abroad throughout 2022 had increased significantly because the restrictions previously applied to control the transmission of COVID-19 had been relaxed.
