JAKARTA - A man who secretly recorded a married couple through a hole in an apartment wall in Karama, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was jailed for two months and will be expelled at the end of his sentence.

The husband told the Dubai Criminal Court how he grabbed the man's hand and took his phone, when he caught the man making a video.

The man and his partner live in the same apartment, separated by a wooden divider.

"I was with my wife when I felt someone was watching us," the court note said in a statement.

"I was shocked when I realized the man who lived in the next room, recorded us with his cell phone through a hole in the gypsum wall," he explained.

"I grabbed his hand and took the phone before calling the police," he said.

Officers arrived at the apartment after midnight and arrested the man who claimed to have recorded the couple for 25 seconds. The husband gave the man's phone to the officer.

"I tried to look through a hole in a wooden partition that separates the rooms and recorded them for 25 seconds using my cell phone," said the man's court note.

He pleaded with mercy after being found guilty, for violating the couple's privacy. Meanwhile, an appeal against the court ruling can be appealed within 15 days.

It is known, apartment sharing is illegal in the UAE, but the couple said they couldn't afford to buy their own home.

Police did not disclose whether any action was taken against the owner or tenant for the flat sub-waiver.
