JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo appointed Yaqut Cholil Choumas (Gus Yaqut) as Minister of Religion. Gus Yaqut will replace Fachrul Razi in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.
"Mr Yaqut Cholil will be given responsibility as Minister of Religion," said Jokowi at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 22.

Gus Yaqut will be appointed Minister of Religion tomorrow, Wednesday, December 23 at the State Palace, along with five other new ministers.
Gus Yaqut is the son of Muhammad Cholil Bisri, a founder of the National Awakening Party (PKB). Yaqut was chairman of the Ansor GP in the 2011-2015 and 2015-2020 periods.
"He is a Muslim figure, chairman of PP GP Ansor," said Jokowi.
