Throughout 2020, 48,948 People Became Suspects In Drug Cases

JAKARTA - The National Police has presented data on the disclosure of the trafficking of narcotics during 2020. During the period from January 1 to December 22, the most confiscated evidence was 50.1 tons of cannabis.

"Prevention of drug trafficking by sea and land with evidence of 50, 1 ton of marijuana, then 5.53 tonnes of methamphetamine," said National Police Chief General Idham Aziz in his statement, Tuesday, December 22.

Then, several other types of drugs that were confiscated during the 2020 period included 737,384 ecstasy pills, 41,765 grams of heroin, 330 grams of cocaine, 104,321 grams of gorilla tobacco, and 64.5 grams of hashish (resin from cannabis).

From this evidence, said Idham, tens of thousands of people were named as suspects. Currently, the legal process against them is still in the filing process until they have served their detention period.

"(A total of) 48,948 suspects were enforced," said Idham.

For your information, the last time drug trafficking was revealed by the Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the North Sumatra Police's Narcotics Detective Directorate. The joint team found around 17,500 stalks of marijuana in Tor (Bukit) Sipira Manuk, Pardomuan Huta Tua Village, East Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal (Madina) Regency, Monday, December 7.

"The area of land planted with marijuana is around 5 hectares in hilly areas, with 17,500 cannabis plants, with plant heights from 30 centimeters to 3 meters," said the Director of Narcotics Crime, Bareskrim Polri Brig. Gen. Krisno Halomoan Siregar.

This case was revealed when the police developed the case previously with 284 kilograms of marijuana and two suspects with the initials FA (38) and RA (37).
