High Rain Intensity, Hundreds Of Residents Of Kidang Village, Central Lombok, Sustained Due To Floods

LOMBOK - Hundreds of residents in Peras Hamlet, Kidang Village, East Praya District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara fled because their houses were hit by floods after heavy rains.

"Of the 173 families, about 120 families whose houses were flooded, many residents fled to higher ground," said member of the BPD in Kidang Tarnadi Village in Praya, Saturday, December 24.

Kidang Village Secretary, Ruslan Jayadi, said that apart from submerging residents' houses, the impact of the flood also affected 32 hectares of ponds from 10 shrimp farming groups and corn farming land.

The flood occurred, due to the overflow of the Mujur-Peras river water and the high intensity of rain and the high tide added.

"Residents fled with their livestock to the village road, because the road conditions were higher. Water was predicted to recede around 2-4 pm because at that time the water would recede," he said.

Previously, a number of houses in the area in Banket Parak Village, Pujut District and Peras Hamlet, Kidang Village, East Praya District, Central Lombok Regency were flooded, due to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that occurred in the local area from night until evening, Saturday.

"River water overflowed, so it entered the residents' yard," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Central Lombok BPBD, Zamzuri.

The flood was quite disturbing people's activities, because the water level reached the thighs of adults, but his party could not provide detailed data regarding the affected residents.

"We are going down at the location to provide basic food assistance to residents," he said.
