Changi Airport Singapore Test New Service For Bagation Tracking Through The Application

JAKARTA - Changi Airport, Singapore has launched a test service to help passengers track down the whereabouts of their suitcases and luggage.

The baggage tracker, which is available via the iChangi app, provides an update of baggage status for departing passengers, arriving and switching flights.

After the passengers check-in, they can scan the barcode or enter the number on the start-up of the bag tag into the tracker.

If the notification is activated, passengers will know when their bags have been registered and loaded into the plane for departure, and while in the arrival belt. The bag can be tracked for up to three days.

According to the Changi Airport website, most check-in bags can be tracked by trackers, except for odd bags, bags checked at the gates, bags labeled with limited releases.

"Lagation tracker iChangi uses a combination of information provided by the airline you are traveling in and the Changi Airport baggage system to give you your bag trip through Changi Airport," said the baggage tracking website, launching CNA December 20.

This service is available to participating airline passengers, including Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Jetstar Asia, and Malaysia Airlines.

Passengers departing from Changi Airport will be able to track their baggage during check-in to the loading point. Meanwhile, those arriving at Changi Airport will be able to track their baggage from check-in at the airport of origin to a baggage belt at Changi Airport.

As for passengers who switch flights at Changi Airport, they will be able to track their baggage from check-in to their arrival at Changi Airport and to the loading point for departure, if the flight origins and destinations are participating airlines.

For flight moving baggage, a short connection, for example, due to delayed incoming flights and One-Stop Security transfer flights, this may not be traceable, as the baggage can be managed directly by the passenger-passed airline.

For passengers to switch flights, if the tracker suggests that bags will be sent to belts in Singapore, perhaps as they buy tickets to their final destination separately and may need to take their bags in the arrival belt and check-in again for the next flight.

Passengers must check at the transfer counter to ensure that their bags have been registered to their final destination.

Changi Airport said the information used by airline trackers and tracers of its new baggage was similar.

"Your company may provide additional information that is only available to them. While our tracker may display more information integrated with our airport facilities," wrote the airport on its website.

The airport said it was working to improve the arrival baggage tracking system at Terminal 1 and Terminal 4, and would soon provide more updates.

He added that bags can be loaded at any time before the flight departs and notifications may be delayed.

"If you can't find your bag in the arrival belt, please proceed to the Lost and Found counter for more information and assistance," the airport added.
