BRIN Collaborating With Private Research For Design Planning For Mini LNG Ship Production

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has collaborated on research on technology produced by mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships with the private sector.

Head of the Center for Hydrodynamic Technology Research (PRTH) BRIN Widjo Kongko said this research was funded by the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) for 2022-2024.

"This cooperation agreement with PT Orela Shipyard is about the production engineering of the mini liquefied natural gas ship," he said in a written statement, Friday, December 16, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the implementation of the cooperation was aimed at supporting research on technology studies on the production of LNG mini ships to improve the competitiveness of national shipyards.

The focus of research on developing production technology that is oriented towards high productivity.

In this collaboration, Widjo said, the private sector is a research partner who will help prepare design plans for the production of LNG mini ships.

The research activity is also in line with BRIN's efforts to encourage innovation research as a basis for producing and increasing the level of domestic components (TKDN) and competitiveness and supporting Increasing the Use of Domestic Production (P3DN).

Widjo hopes that this collaboration can encourage research and innovation products towards downstreaming. "LNG mini ships are liquid natural gas carriers that are useful for supplying gas needs to regions," he said.
