Earthquake M 5.1 Guncang Southeast Maluku, Guncangannya Feels In Ambon

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 5.1 shook Southeast Maluku Regency on Tuesday, December 13. The shock was felt in Ambon, Maluku City.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the coordinates of the earthquake were at 3.16 South Latitude (LS) and 129.10 East Longitude (BT).

"The epicenter was on the mainland 16 kilometers northeast of Masohi, Southeast Maluku," wrote BMKG on its Twitter account, @infoBMKG, Tuesday, December 13.

The earthquake with a depth of 40 kilometers that occurred at 05.10 WIB felt the vibration on the MMI III scale in Ambon and Masohi. Likewise in Saparua, Central Maluku Regency.

Until this news was revealed, the BMKG had not informed the potential for a tsunami due to the earthquake.

However, BMKG asked people affected by the earthquake in Southeast Maluku to remain alert for aftershocks.
