JAKARTA - The national company PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) supports the steps of the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to use electric cars as daily operational vehicles, thus proving that the government is very serious about creating pollution-free vehicles.
"We welcome the Minister of Transportation's step and we see it as an effort that the electric vehicle program in the future wants Indonesia to be greener and this is of course to be followed by other ministries," said the President Director of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk. Anindya Bakrie in a virtual press statement quoted from Antara, Thursday 17 December.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi Wednesday 16 December, at Gambir Station, Jakarta, officially uses a white electric vehicle (Ioniq) with the RI police number 35 for daily service operations and invites other agencies to use electric vehicles as operational vehicles.
Anindya said, the trend of using electric vehicles has actually been carried out in many countries in the world and Indonesia should not be left behind in using this technology as a vehicle for the future.
Moreover, he said, Indonesia contains nickel as a raw material for making electric vehicle batteries, which are being targeted by many other countries.
"Of course, this natural resource wealth can be utilized by Indonesia so that we no longer need to import batteries but can be produced domestically," he said.
BNBR, he said, through Bakrie Autoparts has had experience in developing the automotive spare parts industry, thus supporting the government's program in developing the electric vehicle industry.
"Electric vehicles are one of BNBR's business developments to create green transportation solutions," he said.
The company launched the first electric bus in Indonesia that has passed all the requirements for the homologation process and fulfills all legal and technical requirements to be tested commercially by TransJakarta.
Bakrie Autoparts is also building a third unit of electric buses at a local car body company that is intended for use on the TransJakarta BRT route.
"Apart from Jakarta, the use of electric buses is also in demand in Bali, Central Java and Aceh. Of course it is hoped that more and more provinces will be interested in creating a green climate," said Anindya.
