JAKARTA - Two perpetrators of snatching a Samsung cellphone in the area of Jalan Baladewa, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, were beaten badly by the mob after the victim's action was discovered. However, before being arrested by residents, the perpetrator had jumped into the river to avoid the tantrums of the masses.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Johar Baru Police, AKP Suprayogo, confirmed the arrests of two perpetrators of the initials AR (40) and ER (26) in his area. Suprayogo explained, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, December 6.

"The perpetrator's mode of riding a motorbike around is looking for targets who are playing with cellphones. After the target, the Samsung cellphone belonging to the victim's initials AH was seized by the perpetrator. The victim screamed," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Suprayogo to reporters, Tuesday, December 6.

After being shouted at, the two perpetrators panicked and then one perpetrator threw himself into the river to avoid the residents' tantrums. Meanwhile, another perpetrator was arrested by residents.

"It happened in Baladewa, (one perpetrator) threw into Kali in Tanah Tinggi. The perpetrator was beaten by the masses, the perpetrator suffered abrasions," he said.

The perpetrators were immediately taken to the Johar Police. Both of them were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code.
