JAKARTA - Spanish police managed to intercept three envelopes containing animal eyes aimed at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid, as well as its consulates in Barcelona and Malaga on Monday, police sources close to the investigation said.

Last week, Ukraine said a series of 'bloody packages' were sent to its missions across Europe, immediately after a letter bomb was detonated at the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain, and intercepted similar packages at a number of separate locations, including those addressed to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

Post service security staff detected a new envelope during an inspection on Monday morning and notified police, the source said.

Officers did not find material that was explosive or flammable in it, the source added.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid received a package with animal eyes on Friday, which the interior ministry said carried foreign stamps.

The evidence from the package shared with the post service helps its staff detect the latest, added a police source.

On Saturday, a source familiar with the investigation told Reuters the six letter bombs last week appeared to have been sent from the northern city of Valladolid.

Separately, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko confirmed the latest wiretapping on Monday, saying there are now 21 known cases where the threat has been sent to the Kyiv diplomatic mission in 12 countries.
