JAKARTA - The United Nations (UN) warned Russia's missile attacks on vital infrastructure in Ukraine would endanger millions of civilians because it could create very cold temperatures.

"Otherwaves of current missile attacks have left millions (living) without electricity and water in a number of areas in the north, central and south, as well as in the capital Kiev," said UN spokesman Stephanie Tremblay as reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 6.

Tremblay said the water supply was disrupted due to the lack of electricity to run pumps in Odesa. The heating system in Dnipro and Odesa was also affected.

"The attack further destroyed Ukraine's energy system as air temperatures fell below zero in most areas and reached -8 degrees in Kiev," he said.

"Repetitive attacks on this energy system endanger millions of civilians due to very cold temperatures, especially people living on the front lines without access to heating systems, water and essential services".

According to Ukrainian authorities, about 40 percent of the Kiev region experienced blackouts.

The warning of airstrikes in Ukraine is almost daily due to possible missile and drone attacks targeting civilian and energy infrastructure since the Russian invasion began on February 24.
