PVMBG: The Eruption Of Mount Semeru Can Cause The Tsunami To Hoaks

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) clarified the rumors circulating that the eruption of Mount Semeru could cause a tsunami. According to PVMBG, this is not true or a hoax. "The current impact of the eruption is volcanic ash that can impact the southwest, west and south of Mount Semeru," PVMBG wrote on its official Twitter account which was uploaded on Sunday, December 4 evening. The account also states that the hot clouds falling from Mount Semeru reach approximately 13 kilometers to the southeast and do not reach the sea. "The news circulating that the Semeru eruption could cause a tsunami is not true," he wrote. Head of the Emergency Division of the Lumajang Regional Disaster Management Agency, Joko Sambang, appealed to the public not to be provoked by irresponsible information regarding the activities of Mount Semeru. "We urge the public to follow the direction of the authorized agency, namely the Geological Agency which will continue to coordinate with BPBD in the regions," he said. PVMBG also mentioned that information regarding the latest Semeru Volcano activities can be obtained through the application/Website Magma Indonesia (www.vsi.esdm.go.id or magma.esdm.go.id), and PVMBG (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pvmbg_) social media. Meanwhile, the Regent of Lumajang Thoriqul Haq appealed to the public not to panic about the hoax issue after the eruption of Mount Semeru accompanied by Hot Clouds of Falls (APG) that occurred on the slopes of Mount Semeru. "I ask people who are in refugee posts not to easily believe in false information spread by irresponsible persons," he said. There is information circulating in the community that the relocation area is an unsafe location from the potential for an eruption of Mount Semeru, so that many residents who return to permanent housing in Sumbermujur Village choose to evacuate. "I make sure the relocation residence is safe and does not follow the lava flow. The lava flow does not go to Sumbermujur Village, but through Supiturang, Curah Kobokan, Kajang and Bondeli rooms," he said.
