26 Pigs Are Prohibited From Entering Balikpapan, Secured At The Port Because They Are Not Suspected

The Agricultural Quarantine prevented 26 pigs from entering Balikpapan. The livestock animal was detained at the Kariangau Ferry Port after being transported from Palu using a truck riding the Swarna Kartika Motorboat (KM).

"These pigs are not equipped with an animal health certificate (KH-11), so we carried out quarantine measures in the form of detention," said the paramedik at the Feri Feri Port Quarantine, Balikpapan, Mochammad Makruf, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, November 30.

Without a KH-11 certificate, bringing animals into one particular legal area in Indonesia, then violating Law no. 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine.

The law also applies to other livestock, such as cows, buffalo, goats, horses, pets such as dogs and cats, even snakes, and other animals.

In addition to the Quarantine Law, currently because there is still an outbreak of mouth disease and nails in animals (communicating) such as cows, rules for entering or transferring animals from one place to another are still prohibited.

This is based on the Circular of the Task Force for Handling Oral and Kuku Diseases Number 7 of 2022 concerning Control of Traffic of Vulnerable Animals for Oral and Kuku Diseases and Vulnerable Products for Vulnerable Oral and Regional-Based Kuku Diseases.

According to the Animal Quarantine Sub-Coordinator Endang Sri Pertiwi during his detention period, quarantine officials conducted socialization about the importance of reporting quarantine.

Service users, he continued, agreed to take further action in the form of rejection by returning the carrier media to their area of origin.

"A series of actions carried out by the Balikpapan Agricultural Quarantine are always based on Law no. 21 of 2019, this is so that people are aware of the importance of quarantine tasks and their role in reporting to quarantine," said Balikpapan Agricultural Quarantine Head Akhmad Alfaraby.
