The Jember Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) recently issued a fatwa that dancing the pargoy is haram. The decision of the Jember MUI Fatwa Commission was stated in a letter numbered 02/MUI-Jbr/XI/2022 issued on Saturday, November 19, then based on the results of a limited meeting of the Jember MUI Fatwa Commission. This letter was signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Fatwa Commission, namely Badrut Tamam and Moh Faiz Kurnia Hadi. In the letter, the Jember MUI considers that the dance pargoy is haram because it contains erotic movements and creates lust or lust from the opposite sex. "Joget Pargoy is a certain type of dance or shake that a group of teenagers does. Generally, this Pargoy is done by young women, dressed sexy, opening aurats, erotic dancing and giving rise to the opposite sex,” write the tausiah letter, quoted on Wednesday, November 30. In addition, the Jember MUI asked Muslims in Jember Regency to maintain the condition of Jember Regency as a religious Regency, and pay attention to and maintain religious values in every daily activity. "Joget pargoy does not reflect a moral Muslim and tarnishes the values of decency, morals and customs, especially those that apply in Jember Regency," he explained.
