BTS Can LAST 4 Hours Even Though The Electricity Is Disconnected Due To The Earthquake

JAKARTA - Base Transceiver Station (BTS) can last at least four hours when it doesn't get electricity when natural disasters hit, such as in Cianjur.

"About four hours. This is because BTS will be supported with battery backups. After it runs out (the battery power), there is no electricity, and it goes out. When it goes out, then we will use a generator (to provide power)," said Wireless Engineer Huawei Indonesia Chandra Gunawan, as reported by Antara, Thursday, November 24.

BTS itself is a vital instrument in mobile networks that is useful as a link between a network of cellular telecommunications and communication devices.

BTS has the function of sending and receiving radio signals to communication devices. The radio signal is converted into a digital signal to be sent to other terminals into a faster message or data and telecommunication network.

Still about the earthquake in Cianjur, West Java, Monday (21/11), a number of other telecommunications services and the government also continues to ensure and monitor the recovery of telecommunications services by cellular telecommunications operators in areas affected by the 5.6 magnitude earthquake.

The Director General of Post and Information Technology at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Ismail explained that as of Tuesday (22/11) at 17.00 WIB, based on monitoring from 1,172 BTS sites of cellular telecommunications services in Cianjur and Sukabumi, there are only 15 sites that have not been able to serve the needs of the community.

On the other hand, Chandra continued, BTS installations are usually carried out in a tower, tower, and other tall buildings, so that the signals emitted can reach a large area.

Telecommunications service providers or operator companies will establish their BTS towers or towers independently.

In Indonesia itself, now there are 4,321 BTS points operating to provide 4G telecommunications services for people in the country as of October 4, 2022.

This number is included in 4,500 4G BTS built by the Ministry of Communication and Information with the overall target of BTS development in Indonesia reaching 9,113 points.

Previously in September 2022, the number of BTS active in serving the community amounted to 4,241 BTS.
