WAMENA - The Lanny Jaya Regency Government, Papua Province has prepared steps to add nine specialist doctors so that health services to the community in the interior of this province will improve.

Acting Regent of Lanny Jaya Petrus Wakerkwa said the nine doctors would be sent outside Papua in 2023 to schools in several medical majors.

"We will send them to the 2023 Fiscal Year. This is specifically for specialist doctors. So non-Indigenous doctors from Papua (OAP) take care of Tiom, the departing is OAP," he said, reported by Antara in Wamena, Sunday, November 20.

The government has chosen indigenous Papuans so that services to the community are easier because some patients who seek treatment at health facilities understand better if officers use regional languages.

"They are for specialists in teeth, lungs, liver, eyes. For obstetricians, they have left first," he said.

Petrus added that the government will continue to improve or gradually improve health services in this district. Including planning to improve services at the Tiom Hospital, the capital city of Lanny Jaya Regency so that it is the same as hospitals in coastal areas of Papua.

"We will build a very good hospital, approaching Dok II Jayapura Hospital, Provita Jayapura or Dian Harapan in Jayapura and bringing in a specialist doctor from Siloam Jakarta," he said.

Although Lanny Jaya Hospital does not yet have adequate specialist doctors, the government ensures that residents there receive the same treatment as in other areas because the government has built cooperation with a number of hospitals in the country.

Through these referral hospitals, Lanny Jaya residents can seek treatment and be financed by the local government.

"This healthy Lanny Jaya program has representatives in Wamena (Jayawijaya), Jayapura, Dian Harapan and Provita in Jayapura City, Siloam Makassar, Siloam Jakarta and Gatot Subroto Hospital Jakarta. We are working with a number of hospitals because Lanny Jaya is a new district, hospitals have just been built, equipment is still limited, specialist doctors are limited," he said.

Petrus ensured that the cooperation that had taken place around 2018 would continue until 2024.

"We are still continuing until 2024, when the definitive regent is elected," he said.
